What I've Been Up to Lately (3/3/05 - 3/20/05)

Sorry for not keeping this thing up to date. But once I missed a day it turned into two days... then 3 days... then 4... then ....

Anyway, here's a quick summary of what I've been up to.

Tuesday, March 8, 2005
Workout - Great

Attended a spinning class. Lot's of fun. I loved the music.

Wednesday, March 9, 2005
Workout - Good

I went to Ronya's Step Class in Arlington. Eventhough I was having trouble with my right foot I hung in there.

Thursday, March 10, 2005
Workout - None

Attended Weight Watchers meeting. I was up 1lb. Possibly muscle from the strength training.

Friday, March 11, 2005
Workout - So-So

Attended Ultimate Step Class, but there was a sub. She never really got the class into the routine. So I had a So-So workout.

Saturday, March 12, 2005
Workout - Good

Race Day for the Vegas - except for me (and Clair). I volunteered to help out at the race, which I enjoyed. Plus it was a lot of lifting big jugs of water, setting up tables, directing runners around turns, etc., etc. So I still got a good workout. I really wasn't ready to run so soon. But don't worry, I'm still in training. I need to pick a race one of these days.

Sunday, March 13, 2005
Workout - None

I had to go to work. After that I went to see a play w/ a friend and had dinner afterwards.

Monday, March 14, 2005
Workout - Good

Attended Ronya's Step class. She introduced a new routine, which was pretty good.

Tuesday, March 15th, 2005
Workout - Could have been better.

I had planned to run after work. I got to the gym, did my warm up on the elliptical and then started running on treadmill. I was having a really good run when they announced that they were closing the gym due to a water leak in the locker room. Dern it!

Wednesday, March 16th, 2005
Workout - So-So

Decided to try running again. I managed to do a mile under 15 minutes, but after a break I never regained my stride and I decided to focus on strength training.

Thursday, March 17th, 2005 - Happy St. Patrick's Day!!
Workout - None

I went to my WW meeting tonight. I was down 2.6 lbs bringing my total weigh loss to 12lbs. Yeah!!!

Friday, March 18th, 2005
Workout - Fantastic

I attended Ultimate Step class. Johnny was back this week, so it was a pretty kick ass class.

Saturday, March 19th, 2005
Workout - Good

I did 90 minutes of cardio. I forgot my running shoes, so I did 30-minutes of low impact on 3 different machines: Recumbent Bike, Arc Trainer and Stationary Bike.

Sunday, March 20th, 2005 - Happy Palm Sunday!!
Workout - None

I had to finish up a final project for class. So, I didn't have time to workout today.

There, I'm finally caught up. I'll try to stay on top of this blog in the future. Things have just been crazy. I started a new project last week and I'm studying for finals this week. So, wish me luck.

Tonight's Workout (3/7/05)

Great

I pulled a double whammy tonight. I did 45 minutes of step class. Then skipped the cool down, stretch and abs to get in some running. I ran/walked 2.0 miles in 31 minutes!! Then finished up w/ a little lower body strength training.

Cardio:
- Step Class (45 min)
- Treadmill (31 min/ 2.0 miles)
Strength Training
- Leg Curls (2x10 @ 50lbs)
- Leg Extension (2x10 @ 50lbs)
Lots of Stretching

I'm training at 4.2 mph (14:30 minute mile) now. I think this is a pretty good pace to work with for a while. I was starting feeling like a hippo in slow motion at 4.0 mph (15 minute mile). But now I need to get back to working on distance. Running 2-3 miles each time isn't going to cut it in a 10K. But tonight my knees needed a break after 45 minutes of stepping and 30 minutes of running. I probably could have ran farther if I didn't do the step class first. BTW, Ronya had a new routine tonight that was actually a little challenging. Go Ronya!!

When the weather gets better I'm hoping to do more running outside. I really need to do more road work. It's much harder than the treadmill. I knew when I started training there were 2 things I ultimately refuse to do: 1. Getting up early to workout before going to work and 2. Working out outside in the cold. After that everything else is negotiable.

Because of my double whammy workout I managed to be under my target points by 6 today. Woo Hoo.

Although I suppose to go to book club, tomorrow I'm going to go easy on my knees and do a spinning class. It's a very good low impact workout.

- Gotta Run. Later.

This Weekend's Workout (3/4/04 - 3/6/05)

Good

Friday Night...

First I want to start by saying that now that I've got the hang of it, Ultimate Step Class is a real ass kicker. This class is constant high energy movement from start to finish. You can literally sweat your ass off in this class or die trying. Lesser people usually bail somewhere right after the warm-up. Other intermediate hopefuls make it through the first combination then realize that they may be in way over their heads and finally there's the professionals. Yes, I'm now one of them, because unlike my previous attempts, on Friday night I made it through each combination without tripping myself up, being in the wrong place at the wrong time or making up my own steps. In the end I was drenched in sweat but very happy.

Cardio:
- Ultimate Step (60 minutes)

I celebrated by going to Taco Bell. I made the mistake of ordering the second most fattiest thing on their menu, the Nachos Bell Grande (BTW the taco salad is the fattiest thing on the menu). But I left off the beans, sour cream and guacamole and I only ate 2/3 of it mostly cheese and nachos before throwing out the rest. Even with that I only went over my target by 2 points.

Saturday...

I was suppose to go running with the Vegas on Saturday morning, but my ankles were still a little sore from Ultimate Step class the night before and I hate running in the cold anyway. I know... Excuses, Excuses. Anyway, I decided to sleep in and run later.

Later on I went to Target to get headphones for my iPod. I think this is the 3rd set since I stepped on my good headphones a while back. After Target, I was heading to my gym, WSC, when I decided I was too lazy to drive out any of the clubs in MD or DC, so I decided to workout at the gym on campus. The gym on campus is really nice. Since I'm an alumni I can use if for $5 a day. However, I've been spoiled by towel service at WSC. So I didn't have a towel and I really needed one. I did the elliptical for 30 minutes and I was dripping in sweat. I decided instead of running I would just call it a day. I just wanted to get out and do something type of workout even if it was just 30 minutes on the elliptical. Plus being on campus made me kind of sad. I think being around all the young hopeful people made me miss my college days.

Cardio:
- Elliptical (30 minutes)

When I got home, my mom made lunch. She likes to cook, but I'm noticing she has no concept of the WW way of preparing food. Eating at my mom's is definitely a diet trap. She's always trying to get me to eat stuff I shouldn't eat. Then gets upset when I say no thanks. But she's going to have to deal with it.

Sunday...

No workout. I went to church (Yawn). Then went to the movies. I saw "Hitched". I think Kevin James was the real star of that movie. Then I went to Dinner w/ Roxane. I had the grilled Chicken kabob w/ flat bread and a diet soda. I couldn't find Kabob in the WW food bible so I over guesstimated on it. I'm forcing Roxane to come to a WW meeting w/ me this week. Since she's forcing me to go to an endocrine specialist I think it's a fair trade off.

Tonight's Workout (3/2/05)

None.

I worked late then went to Weight Watchers to weigh in. In 2 weeks I've lost 5 more lbs, bringing my total weight loss to 10lbs!! Woo Hoo!!! This probably explains why twice yesterday I saw people who looked familiar to me but I wasn't sure because when I looked at them they didn't seem to recognize me. So I just convinced myself that they weren't who I thought they were.

Anyway I celebrated my weight loss by going to Wegmans and getting Asian Green Beans, Tofu and Thai Noodles from the buffet. I only ate half so I could have the other half tomorrow night. But even w/ my celebratory dinner I only went over my target by 2 points.

I went to Wendy's for lunch today.
This is what I ordered... the new fruit bowl w/ yogurt and the Ultimate Grilled Chicken sandwich.
This is what I ate... the grilled chicken from the sandwich and the fruit.

I threw out the bread and junk from the sandwich and the yogurt was awful. I had less than 2 spoons before I threw that out too. Guess what this 5 point lunch cost me...$8.51!! The fruit bowl alone was the same price as the Classic Burger Combo and that comes with fries and a drink. I'm guessing one reason people in this country are overweight is because eating unhealthy food is a lot cheaper.

I don't think I'm working out tomorrow. I have an appointment w/ my hairdresser. But I'll definitely be at Ultimate Step class on Friday.

Tonight's Workout (3/1/05)

Alright

Tonight I attempted the break through the 15-minute mile (4.0 miles/hour) pace that I'm currently training at. So I upped the speed to 4.2 miles/hour. And I managed to run a mile in under 15 minutes, but I was so exhausted that when I recovered to run another mile, I was way too tired. So I slowed it down and walked on incline for the next 15 minutes. Then I bailed to focus on more strength training

Bike
- Time: 10 min
- Dist: ???
Treadmill
- Time: 30 min
- Dist: 1.86 miles
Strength Training
- Leg Curls (3x15 @ 40lbs)
- Leg Extensions (3x15 @ 40lbs)
- Chest presses (2x15 @ 37.5 lbs)
Abs
- Pull-ups (2x10)
- Crunches (2x30)
Lots of stretching

I guess I didn't get a sufficient warm up. All the ellipticals were taken (which was a first for the time I usually get to the gym). So, I warmed up on the stationary bike instead. Then I rushed through my stretches because the treadmills were filling up. I'm guessing all the Monday folks were trying to make up for missing a workout when it snowed the other night. Plus, I had a lot of stuff I needed to do once I left the gym, so I wasn’t really looking forward to a long run. I know… excuses, excuses, excuses.

As for eating I hit my target points. Yeah!! So, I plan on weighing-in tomorrow and then staying for the meeting. I'll let you know how it goes.
